What is web hosting?
Web hosting is a place to store your website to let your customers see it. Your domain name is your address on the Internet. Web hosting includes email services so that people can send you email on your domain name. To make all this work we run a large number of high speed computers (servers) with built in redundancies so that we can guarantee your website and email will be working at least 99.8% of the time. All this is provided to you in the form of website hosting plans. Depending on the size of your website or the number email accounts you need you can choose a plan that best suites your needs. Please contact us for advice on website hosting plans and costs.

What are the 3 components needed for an online presence or website for your business?

1. Register a domain name;

Domain names are a annual fee, and can be registered with various domain name registrars. If you are unsure about how and where to register your domain name Flying Lizard will help. The domain name should be in your name, ie. so fee for the domain name will be set in your account with the registrar, you will control your domain name.

2. Web site hosting plan;

A website is a number of .php or .asp, .html and other files that all link together and they need to sit on a web server to be viewable by your customers. Web hosting is typically a monthly fee and with this fee you will get server space, bandwidth, email accounts and various web services depending on what the website is required to do. Flying Lizard will help. Again the web hosting plan will be setup in your name, you will own and control the plan as Flying Lizard is here to help build a website for your business.

3. Web site design and development;

Finally, you will need the website, which is the series of files and graphics that combined present your business online as a website. Flying Lizard will develop your website with you based on your marketing needs and what the website needs to do ie, inform your customers about your services, sell your product online or manage and present changing data to your customers.

Im currently with another hosting provider, can I switch hosting services?
Most of the time, modern CMS engines and themes are based on open source code – so if the website does not have custom features or is using modern engines you can move your website. And, why not you own it. This however does not mean another developer will know how the code is functioning, and so will take time to become familiar with it.

As your site grows and increases in visitors you may need to upgrade your plan to a larger data allocation.
